we serve

The year 1917 produced historic events, such as the Russian revolution and declaration of war against Germany by the United States.  The year also marked the beginning of what is now known as the International Association of Lions Clubs, the supermarket of humaneness.

Bayside Lions have been an integral part of the worldwide organization since 1951.  Dispensers of a palette of kind acts, providing health services and food, principally.  The components of service change as needs occur, including assistance in times of natural disasters. Our club supports both the international and the local community using 100% of the monies we receive from our fund-raising activities.  The  support we provide is diverse. From the purchase of eye exams and glasses, hearing tests and hearing aids, support to youth organizations, diabetes groups, food baskets for those going though a traumatic period in their lives, and Habitat for Humanity. The Bayside Lions Club is one of a few worldwide who has contributed the full cost for a dog in the Leader Dog for the Blind program. We supported victims of Hurricane Floyd, Katrina and the tsunami victims with donation totaling $20,000. We are a united group serving a dynamic community.

Many activities we support are a joy in which to participate. Journey for Sight brings you in contact with the sight impaired in our community, along with blind athletes and members of other clubs. The picnic for the deaf children of Virginia Beach shows you in real life terms why we support activities for the hearing impaired. And meeting the wonderful teachers of these children, along with the kids themselves, will bring a tear to your eye.

Membership is open to all men and women who desire to share their time and talents in humanitarian causes.  We have no church services or political rallies, but enjoy the privilege of prayer, open discussion, respect for each other and honor of country.  We do keep the faith to our motto, We  Serve.  The credo, “old soldiers never die, they just fade away” speaks to our continual need for faithful warriors to carry on the tradition and indelible images of helping hands.

It makes no difference that we are the oldest and largest service club organization in the world, only the stream of goodness makes sense.  In reality, we provide for the civilization we created, cherishing the accomplishments without glitter.
